Bengal Engineering and Science University developed this well-head filter at the request of Water For People. The filter is a stainless-steel cylinder that is one foot in diameter and 7 feet in height. Water is pumped to the top of the filter, then flows down through a 51-inch layer of activated alumina and an 8-inch layer of gravel. The filter media is replaced or restored every 8 to 12 months, depending on the arsenic and iron content of the water. One filter can serve between 200 and 300 families. |
